Jewish cemetery in Czechowice Dziedzice

Emotion / People

The Jewish cemetery in Czechowice-Dziedzice was established at the beginning of the 20th century. The cemetery was opened on January 17, 1915. The ceremony was conducted by Rabbi Markus Stesner from Bielsko. There was a mortuary in the cemetery, which was pulled down in 1994 for safety reasons.

As a result of the devastation, several dozen tombstones have survived to this day within the cemetery. All the matzevot are overturned and partially damaged. The tombstones were made of sandstone and limestone.

Matzevot are undergoing progressive degradation. Two decorative iron fences with remains of tombstones have survived.

Vandalism and illegal dumping of rubbish in the cemetery are a serious problem.
